Firstport seeks new Chief Executive as it marks a decade of supporting social entrepreneurs

August 15, 2017

Karen McGregor is moving on as chief executive of Firstport, Scotland’s social enterprise development agency, which celebrates ten years of supporting social entrepreneurs next month.

Karen, who will remain in post until October 2017 until she takes up her new role as Business Development Director with Calmac Ferries Ltd, commented:

“It’s been a fantastic experience to lead the Firstport team over the last eight years and so rewarding to see the inspiring social entrepreneurs we support, turn their ideas into viable social businesses that make a real difference to their communities.

Over the past decade, we’ve supported 800 social entrepreneurs, developed unique place-based programmes, changed the face of social investment in Scotland and shared our learning on how to best support emerging social enterprises with our partners and stakeholders.

For the new chief executive they’ll be joining the organisation at an exciting time for social enterprise, with new developments such as Scotland’s Ten Year Social Enterprise Strategy, and increased social investment by organisations and individuals. I look forward to watching what Firstport achieves over the next ten years!”

Peter Shakeshaft, Chair of the Firstport board, added: “I have had the pleasure of working with Karen for many years now. Her contribution to the development of Firstport has been outstanding, providing creative, dynamic leadership and support to the team, to the board and to the sector in general. We are very grateful for her contribution over the years and wish her well in her new role.”
