Through ZPL Mobility, Craig delivers a ‘one stop shop’ for people with mobility needs in the Cowal area. Alongside maintenance and repair services, Craig refurbishes second-hand mobility scooters to sell and hire to locals and tourists at affordable prices. Craig said:
We wanted to offer a personal service, at affordable prices, making everyday life more accessible for those with mobility needs. The social enterprise ethos fits with our goals for the business. Our focus is on delivering a welcoming and high quality service which is available to everyone, not to overcharge people in order to make a huge profit.
There are scooters lying unused in garages and gardens across the country, destined for the landfill. Craig’s goal is to repair and refurbish those he can – or salvage them for parts – so that they can be used by those who need them most.
He is also moving into bespoke adaptations of scooters, to make them fit for purpose, and customising their appearance.
Disability is about diversity, not disadvantage. We want to help people enjoy a life without limits.
In 2017 Craig was also awarded a Start It award from the Social Entrepreneurs Fund, delivered by Firstport, to progress his business.
Craig has ambitions to extend their impact even further in the future. He has identified a charity in South Africa, which he will donate his rented scooters to once they’ve fulfilled their use in Dunoon, giving them a further lease of life.
