Green Aspirations Scotland

Louise McAllister was motivated to set up Green Aspirations (GrAsp) by her own love of the outdoors, particularly of trees and woodland, and by her understanding of the health benefits that outdoor experiences can bring.

A community interest company, Green Aspirations Scotland is a woodland-based social enterprise which inspires learning by providing educational and volunteering opportunities.

By delivering outdoor education and craft workshops to local groups, schools and partner organisations, Louise is committed to introducing others to their natural environment at the same time as highlighting the importance of conservation in their local area.  Her ambition is to see lots of “happy faces” as she creates life-changing experiences.

Green Aspirations delivers woodland craft experiences such as family bushcraft, charcoal making, fire-lighting, den building, natural weaving, campfire cooking and woodland treasure hunts. Louise and her team also arrange birthday parties, volunteering opportunities, wood products for sale from sustainably managed Scottish timber and activities for schools.

Volunteer programmes, including regular volunteer training days and weekends, ensure that Green Aspirations volunteers enjoy their “workplace around the campfire”.

While getting GrAsp off the ground, Louise received a Start It award to help her with buying some of the equipment needed to start the business. In the first year of trading, GrAsp doubled its staff level and created 10 volunteer placements, and provided 67 days of workshops and 31 Birthday parties.
